Akron Children’s Hospital is seeking a Perinatologist to join its Department of Maternal Fetal Medicine.  The department currently has five maternal fetal medicine specialists, including one trained in Medical Genetics, and two Women’s Health Clinical Nurse Practitioners.  We provide specialty high risk obstetrical care with advanced prenatal assessment and treatment including targeted ultrasonography, genetic counseling, amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, fetal echocardiography, fetal MRI, cordocentesis, and multiple fetal procedures such as intrauterine transfusion, vesicoamniotic shunt placement, and thoracoamniotic shunt placement.   

Our model of care is mainly consultative and co-management with total care provided to the select highest risk patients. We have an active regional transport program and perform approximately 100 deliveries annually at two local adult hospitals. Both adult hospitals have Level III OB and neonatal designation and medical school affiliated OB/GYN residency programs and we actively participate in the education of residents and medical students. Medical school appointment is required. Research opportunities are also available and encouraged. The Department of MFM is home to the D. Gary Benfield Fetal Treatment Center at Akron Children’s Hospital, which provides care to patients with fetal complications and has a genetic counselor, APN Care Coordinator, and additional genetic counselors. Akron Children’s Hospital is home to the 100 bed regional neonatal intensive care unit with neonatology and a full complement of medical and surgical pediatric subspecialists including a pediatric cardiac surgery program. Successful candidates will have excellent interpersonal and teaching skills and be eligible for licensure in the state of Ohio.
