Additional InformationNew York Medical College (NYMC) and Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) are seeking an accomplished, nationally recognized obstetrician to serve as Chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. NYMC and WMCHealth are partners in education, research and clinical care. The Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology will simultaneously serve as the academic chair for the Department at NYMC School of Medicine and the clinical director for OB/GYN care delivered across the health system.
WMCHealth is a 1,700-bed healthcare system headquartered in Valhalla, New York, with 10 hospitals on eight campuses spanning 6,200 square miles of the Hudson Valley. WMCHealth employs more than 12,000 people and has nearly 3,000 attending physicians. From Level 1, Level 2 and Pediatric Trauma Centers, the region’s only acute care children’s hospital, an academic medical center, several community hospitals, dozens of specialized institutes and centers, skilled nursing, assisted living facilities, homecare services and one of the largest mental health systems in New York State, WMCHealth is the pre-eminent provider of integrated healthcare in the Hudson Valley.
The Chair will provide strategic leadership, direction and coordination of administrative, clinical, educational, and research endeavors to the department’s 17-member faculty and an ACGME accredited residency program with 16 residents. Westchester Medical Center (WMC), the system’s flagship hospital and Level I trauma center, has one of the highest case-mix indexes in the nation, caring for the most severely ill or injured patients in the nation. WMC averages 800 to 900 high-risk deliveries each year, and has a 49-bed, Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The Chair will also provide leadership for OB/GYN services at Good Samaritan Hospital, which averages 3,000 deliveries per year, and establish an OB/GYN service at Kingston Hospital.
The successful candidate will be recognized as an outstanding OB/GYN leader with an excellent track record in clinical care and teaching. Candidates must demonstrate a strong vision for achieving excellence in women’s care and an understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with running a large department within a premier hospital. A minimum of five years of leadership experience is required with demonstrated outcomes in quality, performance management, growth and academics. Successful candidates will hold an MD or MD/PhD or equivalent, have completed an ACGME accredited residency in obstetrics and gynecology, and maintain current board certification. Eligibility for an unrestricted New York medical license and an academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor are required.
