The NICU has recently expanded from 45 to 52 beds due to demand. The Department has an excellent faculty and resident staff, which is given appropriate resources for research, including basic science laboratories, both supported by the Department and the University.

The MFM Division has an ACGME-certified 3 year MFM fellowship with one fellow per year. The University of Virginia is in Charlottesville, a cultured, cosmopolitan community with a charming, small-town feel.
