Position Description
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Washington (UW) is seeking to hire a full-time faculty member at the Associate Professor or Full Professor without Tenure due to funding (WOT) to join the Division of Maternal and Fetal Medicine. UW Medicine encompasses four hospitals including UW Montlake Hospital, Northwest Hospital, Harborview Medical Center and Valley Medical Center. The department supports a residency program, three fellowship programs and is a major teaching site for UW medical students. 

We are seeking a passionate, mid- or senior career Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician or translational physician-scientist to coordinate and direct research activities within the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine as Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Research. The Director of Maternal Fetal Research would oversee a highly specialized center of excellence for pregnancy related research. The successful candidate will be expected to provide administrative and academic leadership which includes but not limited to: research leadership, mentor junior faculty, engage in program development, and carry forward our academic mission. The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in education, leadership and research consistent with the academic mission of the University of Washington.  

The Department receives more than 15 million dollars annually in grant funding and many junior faculty are currently supported by NIH career development awards [K08, K23, and a successful K12 Women’s Reproductive Health Research program]. The individual holding this position will direct research activities in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and is expected to be a key senior mentor to junior faculty on the physician-scientist track and scientist track. Candidates will be expected to provide medical services at the University of Washington affiliated hospitals, train residents and medical students, and make academic contributions to the field. UWMC is a comprehensive healthcare facility dedicated to providing specialized care for a broad spectrum of patients from throughout a five-state region comprised of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (WWAMI), and includes the region’s premier neonatal intensive care unit. Academic rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience. This is a 12-month service period position [July 1-June 30], with the earliest anticipated start date of December 1, 2022. The University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Qualifications
  • MD/DO, MD/PhD. A foreign equivalent is acceptable. 
  • Must have record of published research in translational sciences.
  • Experience in fellow, resident and medical student education
  • Established record of independent grant support
  • Established record of national and international collaboration through published research
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
