President's Workshop: Implementation Science and the Optimization of Obstetric Care

workshop will provide an overview of implementation science, which is the
scientific study of methods to promote the integration of research findings and
evidence-based interventions into healthcare practice.

- Understand the rationale for implementation science as a response to the maternal morbidity and mortality crisis and to address healthcare inequities;
- Gain consensus among the maternal health community about how to implement best practices within the public health and individual health care institution to reduce maternal mortality and optimize maternal health utilizing implementation science knowledge and strategies;
- Provide guidance to perinatal quality collaboratives on the range of implementation strategies available, the evidence-base that guides their use, and how they can be selected and tailored to overcome implementation barriers; and
- Supply insight regarding the methods and designs useful within implementation studies and increase familiarity with research priorities pertinent to implementation science and their applications for obstetric research.
