Course Description: 
As we continue our focus on the “M” in maternal-fetal medicine, this course will highlight opportunities improve maternal outcomes through sepsis bundle implementation, the use of practical strategies for sepsis recognition, treatment and ICU management including point of care ultrasound. We will also  outline an approach for managing the critically ill COVID-19 sepsis obstetric patient.

Learning Objectives:
  • Understand incidence of and etiologies for maternal sepsis
  • Describe benefits of implementation of a maternal safety bundle for sepsis
  • Identify key steps for management of sepsis including ICU considerations  
  • Recognizes opportunities to use point of care ultrasound in obstetric sepsis
  • Observe maternal sepsis simulation and practice debriefing this high stakes obstetric emergency
