2019 Annual Report

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to share the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine’s 2019 Annual Report. Intended to be a snapshot of the year, the Annual Report showcases areas of growth for the Society. Highlights include:

  •  SMFM hosted a record-breaking Annual Meeting in Las Vegas with more attendees (2,851) and more abstracts (1,062) than ever before.
  •  SMFM launched the Reproductive Health Project, a grant-funded initiative intended to reduce the rate of maternal morbidity and mortality among high-risk women in the United States by integrating family planning and reproductive health care services into MFM education, research, and advocacy.
  •  The Society established two new standing committees – the Clinical Informatics Committee and the Diversity and Inclusion in the Workforce Committee – allowing SMFM to engage more member volunteers and to demonstrate a formal commitment to these topics.
  • Together with our partners, SMFM developed 15 new clinical guidance publications on topics including sepsis, vaccinations in pregnancy, preterm birth, and more.
  •  The Society increased offerings related to the business side of maternal-fetal medicine by offering a series of no-cost practice management webinars intended to complement the annual Practice Management Conference and Coding Courses.
  • SMFM ensured a strong, sustainable future with a net financial gain of $1.06 million, which was reinvested into reserves and staff who will advance new programs.

Members are at the center of all of our accomplishments, and we are grateful for our long-time members and new members alike. Thank you for helping to make 2019 a great year.  If you have any questions or need assistance, you are welcome to contact the SMFM staff or members of our Board directly.
