General Abstract Reviewer Application -- Apply by June 15!

For the SMFM 2027 Pregnancy Meeting, SMFM is pleased to invite members to apply to serve as General Abstract Reviewers.

Pregnancy Meeting General Abstract Reviewer Criteria

The goal of reviewer criteria is to assure, to the best of the Program Committee and SMFM Board's ability, those evaluating the science considered for the annual meeting program have the scientific skill set to objectively and rigorously evaluate abstracts submitted for programmatic consideration.

To be considered, those applying to serve as General Abstract Reviewers must meet the following criteria:

  1. Are a current member of SMFM;
  2. Are not a Fellow, Resident, or Student;
  3. Agree to meet the General Abstract Review deadlines: September 18 - 28, 2026; and
  4. Have been the first or last author on at least one (1) original PubMed searchable publication within the last three (3) years.

Applications are due on Monday, June 15, 2026 and on Monday, June 29, 2026, all applicants will be notified of the 2027 SMFM Program Committee's reviewer application decisions. 

Note: If you served as a General Abstract Reviewer for the SMFM 2026 Pregnancy Meeting, you do not need to reapply to serve.

2027 SMFM Pregnancy MeetingTM Program Committee

The SMFM Program Committee is responsible for establishing the program for the annual Pregnancy Meeting™, including scientific sessions, postgraduate courses, scientific forums, and special interest groups.

The general abstract submission deadline is 9pm ET on Monday, September 14. The submission site will open in July.  Late-breaking abstract submissions will be accepted in November - December 2026.

Yes, non-members can submit an abstract.

Yes, we accept industry-supported abstracts. Upon submission, all financial interests, commercial or federally funded research, must be disclosed.

No, the content of your abstract will not be submitted or presented at an international, national, or district meeting, and no paper arising from it will be published either in print or electronic format prior to the end of the Pregnancy Meeting. If you intend to submit your work for publication, you must be certain that the publication date will be after the last day of the meeting. If you cannot guarantee this, please do not submit the abstract.

No, we don’t accept panel presentations.

Abstracts are reviewed by a blinded peer-review group. Each abstract is reviewed by a minimum of four experts. Four senior reviewers also review oral abstract presentations. The scores and recommendations are then reviewed and confirmed by the Program Committee.

No. Accepted presenters are expected to pay the full registration fee for the Pregnancy Meeting and attend the meeting in person.

No. Abstracts can be edited before the submission deadline, but they cannot be edited after. Please ensure your title, authors, institution, and abstract text are accurate before submitting.

Should this abstract be accepted for presentation, you agree to publication and hereby assign its copyright to SMFM. The abstract will be published in the abstract supplement. The publication of the full paper is not guaranteed and would require your submission of a completed paper for full peer review evaluation before acceptance. Additional information regarding the manuscript submission step will be provided later.

Late-breaking submissions will be accepted from November 16 - December 21, 2026.
