Heather Straub, MD is currently an Associate professor of Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of Colorado, Anshutz campus. Heather received her MD from the University of Colorado, did her Ob/Gyn residency in Houston, TX and a fellowship in MFM at the University of Chicago/NorthShore University Health System. During her last year in Chicago, she completed a Clinical Medical Ethics Fellowship through the McLean Center at the University of Chicago. After graduation, Dr. Straub joined a private practice in Washington State where she sat on the local IRB of MultiCare Regional Health System for four years before joining the University of Colorado in the summer of 2018.
She is a Faculty Affiliate in the Center for Bioethics and Humanities, previously sat on the hospital Ethics Committee and currently works as a physician proxy for the ethics department. She has developed a formal program/curriculum for OB/GYN resident/fellows training in Ethics and have been closely involved in "Ethical issues in Gender and Reprodutive" care activites through the medical school. She has presented on ethical topics at grand rounds for the OB/GYN Department and the University Ethics Department including "Duty to Care" during the pandemic and several reflections/considerations of medical care after the Dobbs Decision. She has also presented ethics focused lectures at the University of Denver. She has presented and facilitated course ACOG ACM and SMFM on ethics and perinatal mental health.
She has published on a variety of topics including electronic health record usage to optimize preconception care, assessing marijuana use and outcomes during the transition to legalization and access, biases in substance use screening, obesity in pregnancy, depression in pregnancy, stress in pregnancy, Ob/Gyn resident training and sonographer/patient experiences during ultrasound.
