Dr. Margaret Carter has served as a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama, for the past twelve years. She completed her undergraduate education at Howard University in Washington, D.C., which is a historically Black college and university (HBCU). Dr. Carter earned her medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and then completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tulane Medical Center. She pursued her fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and earned a Master of Science degree at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, as well as a Master of Science in Health Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Carter is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Additionally, she is board-certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in Addiction Medicine. Her primary focus is to ensure that all high-risk pregnant women receive safe, evidence-based care. She has specific interests in medical conditions such as diabetes and preeclampsia, as well as complications affecting the fetus, including growth restriction and prenatal diagnosis.
Dr. Carter is a well-published author in the field of Obstetrics and demonstrates leadership in medicine through her role as a founder of two successful practices. She has also worked as a solo practitioner when needed and has served on numerous committees at universities, hospitals, and medical societies. Furthermore, she is actively engaged in her community, participating on multiple boards, joining various organizations, and mentoring others. Despite her busy career, Dr. Carter is a devoted mother to one daughter and a loving wife. In her free time, she enjoys practicing yoga, spending time with her family, and relaxing.
