After receiving a BS from the Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern
University, Dr. Lee earned her medical degree from the Northwestern University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Prentice Women’s Hospital at the McGaw Medical Center Medical Center of Northwestern University, and pursued fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester. Dr. Lee also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship through the Reproductive Scientist Development Program in the Department of Microbiology at the NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Lee’s special interests include maternal stress during pregnancy, steroid effects on fetal development, social determinants of health and disease, rural health, epigenetics, and placental biology. Dr. Lee has returned home to Honolulu as the Kosasa Endowed Professor and Associate Chair for Research and Innovations in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine. She is the Principle Investigator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and Department of Hawaiian Homelands (DHHL) grant to set up a Hawaii Maternal Telehealth Access Program (HMTAP) to increase access to mother-baby care across the State of Hawaii. She and her research colleagues at the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Institute for Biogenesis Research were recently awarded a NIGMS supplement to study the pathophysiologic effects of environmental microplastics in the human placenta. She is the also the Medical Director of the Fetal Diagnostic Center at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children which oversees over 22,000 patient visits each year across the Pacific Rim.
