The Unbundling of Global Obstetric Billing: What Do These Changes Mean for MFM?
This course is designed to enhance the understanding and potential implications of the decision to unbundle maternity care services on Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Topics will include the updated CPT codes and guidelines for maternity care services, modifiers, ultrasound and procedure coding, role of residents and fellows, and Practice Management. This course is aimed at maternal-fetal medicine clinicians, coders, fellows, and practice managers.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the course, learners should be able to:
- Understand the rationale behind the decision to unbundle maternity care services.
- Describe the updated CPT codes and guidelines for maternity care services including antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care.
- Use modifiers correctly to reflect clinical complexity, shared services, and supervision of residents or fellows.
- Implement accurate coding for MFM-specific services, including ultrasound and procedures.
- Incorporation of the new guidelines into MFM practices.
- Strengthen coding accuracy and confidence by engaging in interactive case discussions and faculty Q&A to address practice-specific questions.
