2020 Annual Report
Dear Colleagues,
Despite a year of collective uncertainty amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we are pleased to recognize the strength of our membership through the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine’s 2020 Annual Report. Intended to provide a snapshot of the year, the Annual Report showcases areas of tremendous leadership for the Society. Highlights include:
-
Under the guidance of our COVID-19 Task Force, SMFM was able to ensure that pregnant and lactating people have access to the COVID-19 vaccine, a tremendous milestone in combatting the pandemic.
-
Together with our partners, we developed new clinical guidance publications on topics including COVID-19, fetal anomalies, stillbirth, reproductive health, and more.
-
We launched a new patient education website focused on the unique needs of high-risk patients, with free content and patient handouts available in both English and Spanish.
-
We hosted the Annual Pregnancy Meeting in Texas with a record-breaking number of abstracts (1,229) and more than 2,700 attendees.
-
We introduced several new online educational offerings offering CME, including an interdisciplinary patient safety course.
-
Despite the economic downturn, we ensured a strong, sustainable future with a net financial gain, which was reinvested into reserves and staff support to advance new programs.
Members are at the center of all of our accomplishments, and we are grateful for our long-time members and new members alike. In fact, our membership grew by 7% in 2020. Thank you for your loyalty to SMFM in the midst of so many challenges. Our dedicated membership leaves us optimistic for the future. As always, if you have any questions, please contact the SMFM staff or members of our Board directly.
