SMFM Announces Alison G. Cahill, MD, MSCI, As New SMFM President
Las Vegas, NV – The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) is pleased to announce Alison G. Cahill, MD, MSCI, from the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, as its new president for 2026-2027. Dr. Cahill will assume the SMFM presidency today at the conclusion of the 2026 Pregnancy Meeting™.

A board-certified maternal-fetal medicine subspecialist, Dr. Cahill is the Associate Dean of Translational Research at the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School. She is also Professor of Women’s Health and the Director of Health Transformation Research Institute at UT-Austin. “This is an incredible honor for me. SMFM has been my scientific and collaborative home since I was a resident, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve the society in this new role, particularly after it has given so much to me,” said Dr. Cahill. |

Dr. Cahill received her medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, CT. She went on to complete her ob-gyn residency at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA, and her fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO, where she also earned her masters of science in clinical investigation (MSCI).
An active member of SMFM since 2003, Dr. Cahill has served on numerous committees, including the Editorial Committee, Finance Committee, Program Committee, Research Committee, and directed the Foundation’s Resident Scholars Program Committee. She is also an active member of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society, and the Society for Gynecologic Investigation.
Dr. Cahill has published over 300 articles and research studies in peer-reviewed publications and has been funded by the NIH for over two decades. She currently serves as editor-in-chief for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Global Reports, and is an editor of several texts, including Gabbe’s Obstetrics: Normal and Problem Pregnancies and Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring. She also serves as a reviewer for many other peer-reviewed journals.
SMFM is also pleased to announce the other members of the 2026-2027 SMFM Executive Committee:
Joseph R. Biggio, Jr, MD, MSHQS, System Chair and Service Line Leader of the Women’s Service Line and Vice Chief Scientific Officer at Ochsner Health in New Orleans, LA, is the new SMFM Vice President/President-Elect. Dr. Biggio has served as SMFM Secretary-Treasurer since 2025.
Blair J. Wylie, MD, MPH, Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, is the new SMFM Secretary-Treasurer. Dr. Wylie has served as SMFM Assistant Secretary-Treasurer since 2025.
Marvin Williams, Jr, DO, Section Chief and Program Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Professor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, has been elected as the new SMFM Assistant Secretary-Treasurer.
Sindhu K. Srinivas, MD, MSCE, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Executive Director, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania–Cedar Avenue, Associate Chief Medical Officer for Quality and Safety at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, is now SMFM Immediate Past President. Dr. Srinivas has served as SMFM President since 2025.
