SMFM Statement on Executive Order Changes to Childhood Vaccine Schedule

The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) and its members continue to support the American Academy of Pediatrics’ recommended childhood vaccine schedule. 

SMFM is concerned that the new Executive Order creates further unnecessary confusion and distrust of vaccines and undermines public health efforts against preventable diseases and deaths.  

Vaccine recommendations must remain grounded in evidence-based medicine using transparent, unbiased, and current data, while also taking into account the disease burden unique to the United States and its residents.  

Because maternal health and child health are inextricably intertwined, unnecessarily changing standard vaccinations will negatively impact both, as well as harm the health of families and communities.
